ABOUT HORNBEAM HOUSE
FOUR DIAMOND COMFORT AND EASE FOR THE VISITOR OR BUSINESS TRAVELLER INCLUDING THE AA 'GOOD FOOD' AWARD.
Relax and enjoy a break after a hard day's work or simply just travel weary, in an attractive Derbyshire setting, just minutes from the M1 (J29) near Chesterfield.
Either stay in a very comfortable cottage (sleeps 6) or be pampered in our early Victorian home with Bed & Breakfast accommodation. Home-cooked evening meals on request (recently recognised by the AA by receiving their 'Good Food' award). Ground floor room available. Ample private parking.
We are in an ideal spot for the tourist or business visitor, outside the overcrowded areas but within easy reach of many of Derbyshire's famous beauty spots, fascinating buildings and its wealth of wonderful scenery. For golfers, an 18-hole golf course, complete with a 26 bay floodlit driving range, is just minutes away.
We are happy to provide evening meals if required. Our full English breakfast and our lighter breakfast are included in the price, but for a small amount extra we are happy to offer delicacies such as Kedgeree, or, for that extra special occasion, smoked salmon.
For anyone wishing us to do so, we shall be pleased to make a packed lunch by prior arrangement.
We also have a cottage-style annexe, which is available for either catered or self-catering holidays or business requirements and sleeps 4/6.
Comprising an open plan ground floor "Inglenook" feels very spacious, an open staircase leads from the sitting room to the first floor which has 3 reasonably sized bedrooms and an unusually large bathroom.
We are unfortunately unable to offer accommodation to pets and we are a non-smoking household.
We are 5 minutes from the M1 close to Chesterfield. 20 minutes from Chatsworth or Matlock, 15 from Hardwick Hall or Bolsover Castle.
A comfortable bed and sumptuous breakfast await you in our home, which dates from the time young Queen Victoria had recently ascended her throne and a new age was beginning. It is thought to have been built for one of the Managers at the local pit.
The original(?) conservatory/porch leads into a sweeping oak panelled hallway, which, during recent restoration, exposed some of the early Victorian wallpaper, a small section of which has been left exposed on the first floor landing. The ground floor offers a magnificent lounge with views both to the front and rear gardens. We currently offer two double letting rooms, both ensuite with room to accommodate an extra bed and/or cot. The attics still retained some of the original gas light fittings when we moved in, in 2001, which we are hoping to restore and electrify for use in the conservatory.
Set in over three quarters of an acre, Hornbeam House has a terrace at both the front and the rear. The friendly atmosphere of the house itself always makes our visitors feel very welcome. On warm summer evenings the trees afford ample shade to enjoy a relaxed end to your day.
